A leading member of the midfield ranks at La Liga giants Real Madrid enjoyed an outing to remember on Friday night.

The player in question? Eduardo Camavinga.

Youngster Camavinga, for his part, was afforded his first start of Euro 2024 to date, as France locked horns with Portugal in a quarter-final clash.

As much came with Adrien Rabiot suspended, owing to an accumulation of yellow cards.

And, safe to say, ‘Cama’ went on to grasp the opportunity put in front of him with both hands.

Across what proved to be a hugely underwhelming 120-minute affair between the two nations, the 21-year-old stood as something of a shining light in the middle of the park.

Predictably neat and tidy in possession, it was Camavinga’s efforts off the ball which proved of a truly head-turning standard.

Time and time again, the Frenchman was responsible for crucial tackles and interceptions, breaking up dangerous Portuguese attacks, and keeping Les Bleus from conceding what would likely have marked a decisive solitary goal.

It could certainly be argued that Camavinga was France’s best performer on the night (Saliba and Upamecano also impressed), leaving boss Didier Deschamps with something of a decision to make.

Does Adrien Rabiot secure an immediate return to the XI? Or will Camavinga be rewarded for his recent excellence?

Against a Spanish outfit who will likely dominate possession in the competition’s semi-finals, the latter on Friday did more than enough to justify a 2nd successive starting berth next Tuesday night.
