According to an update from AS, Real Madrid have snapped up one of Atletico Madrid’s brightest young talents, Gabriel Suarez Castrelo, after his contract expired with their city rivals on June 30, 2025.
The talented Spanish midfielder, who will turn 19 in August, has now officially joined Real Madrid.
He is set to play for their U19 A team, but could also be placed with Real Madrid C or even move up to Alvaro Arbeloa’s Castilla squad if he impresses.
Who is Suarez Castrelo?
Suarez Castrelo was seen as one of the most exciting prospects to come out of Atletico’s academy in recent years.
Signed from Sporting de Gijon in 2021, he quickly rose through the ranks and made a name for himself with his strong performances and commitment.
Before his spell on the sidelines, he had scored eight goals in 21 appearances across the Division de Honor and the UEFA Youth League.
However, since December, he had not played a single match after refusing to renew his contract, which led Atletico to leave him out for the remainder of the season.
Atletico Madrid consider Suarez Castrelo’s departure a major loss, given the midfielder’s potential and steady progress within their academy. His decision to leave highlights the ongoing issues between the two clubs.
Since Real Madrid ended the long-standing non-aggression pact with Atletico, several young players, such as Yeremaiah Ramos, have swapped red-and-white for white in recent summers.
Suarez Castrelo is the latest name on this list, but he certainly won’t be the last, as Real Madrid continue to strengthen their youth teams with top talents from across Spain, even from their biggest rivals.
This signing shows Real Madrid’s clear strategy of investing in young talent for the future. With Suaárez Castrelo’s skill, and promise, he could soon rise through the ranks and become an important player at Valdebebas.
