Real Madrid have revived their interest in Erling Braut Haaland ahead of a potential move in 2024, reports Diario AS.
The Norwegian striker was one of Madrid’s top targets before he moved to Manchester City last summer from Borussia Dortmund in a deal worth €60 million.
Haaland hasn’t looked back since then, embarking on a ridiculous goalscoring run for the Cityzens this season.
The 22-year-old has racked up 42 goals and five assists in 37 games, including four hat-tricks in the Premier League.
His progress is being tracked by Madrid, who are eyeing the reported €200m release clause in his deal, which could become active in 2024.
However, recent rumours suggested the release clause is no longer valid after City extended his contract until 2025. Despite this, Madrid believe they can sign Haaland.
Madrid are eager to field Kylian Mbappe alongside Haaland in the same line-up for the 2023/24 season.
The French superstar snubbed Los Blancos in favour of signing an extravagant deal with Paris Saint-Germain last year, much to the ire of the Spanish capital giants.
With his contract ending in 2024, Mbappe’s chances of an exit have increased following PSG’s dismal exit from the Champions League in the round of 16.
The 24-year-old may ponder leaving the French capital, while Madrid are still interested in signing him.
Mbappe would arrive on a free transfer if Madrid signed him in 2024, and the Spanish giants are confident they can afford to accommodate him.
Madrid’s priority for the upcoming summer transfer window is Borussia Dortmund midfielder Jude Bellingham, who will cost around €150m.
