Real Madrid are preparing for life without Toni Kroos for the first time in over a decade, following the German midfielder’s decision to retire following the conclusion of this summer’s European Championship in his native Germany. His presence will be greatly missed, although club officials could have the chance to minimise the loss.
Real Madrid have not been expected to sign a replacement for Kroos, although they could explore a market opportunity if one arises. That could certainly be the case with Khephren Thuram, who is set to leave Nice during the upcoming transfer window. According to Tuttosport (via Sport), he has been offered to Los Blancos.
Thuram was one of Europe’s hottest targets last summer, although he ended up staying at Nice. This time around, he’s expected to be available for a bargain price of €15-20m, given that his contract expires in 2025.
Thuram is also 23, so he does fit the transfer policy established by Real Madrid in recent years. He’d also fit Carlo Ancelotti’s style of play, although for now, it’d still be a surprise if he – or any other midfielder – was signed by Los Blancos this summer.
