A member of the attacking ranks at La Liga giants Real Madrid has been appointed the club’s designated free-kick and penalty-kick taker for the season ahead.

That’s according to The Athletic, who point towards Kylian Mbappé as the player in question.

Frontman Mbappé is for his part of course fresh off a stellar opening to the 2025/26 campaign.

Picking up exactly where he left off last season, the Frenchman has racked up three goals in two appearances to date.

And along the way, Mbappé has evidently done enough to convince the coaching staff in Spain’s capital of his readiness to take on more responsibility.

Drawn on the set-piece pecking order in his squad during a recent appearance in front of the media, Xabi Alonso suggested that several members of his ranks were vying for first-choice duties.

As alluded to above, though, if the latest word stemming from the media early this week is anything to go by, then Mbappé has now been assigned as the chosen one for free-kicks and spot-kicks alike.

As per a report from The Athletic:

‘Unlike last season, when the Madrid offensive players took turns, the 26-year-old is now formally in charge of taking penalties and direct free-kicks.’
