Former Real Madrid player Guti has recently raised many eyebrows by hailing Lamine Yamal as one of the three best players in the world right now.

Now, in yet another media interaction, Guti has doubled down on his praise of Yamal, labelling him as the best player in Spain.

Yamal best player in Spain: Guti

In an interview with Diario AS, Guti offered his thoughts on all things Real Madrid, including the future of Rodrygo as well as the top Ballon d’Or candidates from Los Blancos.

At the end of the interview, though, Guti was asked about Barcelona and Lamine Yamal.

Talking about Yamal, Guti echoed a similar statement he made a few days ago, hailing him as the best player in Spain.

“A great player. He had a great Euro and is decisive at 17 years old with Barcelona. He has tremendous potential. He is the best Spanish player right now,” he said.

Given the kind of year Yamal has had, one can hardly blame Guti. The youngster, after all, played a central role in helping Spain win the European Championship in the summer.

Yamal has also enjoyed a stellar start to the new season, with his three goals and four assists helping Barcelona win their first five matches.

Guti on Barcelona’s title challenge

While Guti sang praises of Yamal, he was a lot more sceptical about Barcelona and whether or not they can reclaim the league title this season.

Despite a perfect start to the new season, Guti believes the Catalans will not pose much of a threat to Real Madrid, as these are still early days.

“They have made a great start and are doing things quite well. But the truth is that there is still a lot of league left,” Guti pointed out.

“Saying in September that they are going to win everything is saying a lot about something that we don’t know what will happen. The results are in May,” he concluded.
