Real Madrid hope superstar can return for Copa del Rey final after tests confirm ankle sprain | OneFootball

Kylian Mbappe left the field during Real Madrid vs Arsenal at the Santiago Bernabeu in the 74th minute after suffering an injury.

The French superstar twisted his ankle while duelling with Declan Rice and had to be taken off immediately, with the game at 1-1.

The forward’s injury-enforced withdrawal raised concerns about his availability for next week’s Copa del Rey final against Barcelona.

Real Madrid hopeful Mbappe can return

Now, according to Melchor Ruiz of COPE, Mbappe underwent medical tests earlier today to determine the nature and the full extent of his injury.

And it has been confirmed that the forward has a sprain in his right ankle, which is expected to sideline him for around eight days.

Mbappe will miss this weekend’s La Liga clash against Athletic Club, for which he was already suspended. In addition, the attacker will be unavailable for Real Madrid’s subsequent league game against Getafe next week.

But, Los Blancos have hopes that they will recover the 26-year-old French superstar in time to face Barcelona in the Copa del Rey.

Real Madrid and Barça lock horns with each other at Estadio La Cartuja in Seville on April 26 and the Merengues are hopeful of having him back in time for the match.

Since joining the Spanish capital giants in the summer, Mbappe has netted 33 goals and registered five assists from 50 appearances across all competitions.

He has also won the UEFA Super Cup and the FIFA Intercontinental Cup while still being in contention for Copa del Rey and La Liga.
