Real Madrid will be busy this summer in the transfer market, with the idea being for at least four signings to be made ahead of Xabi Alonso’s first season as manager. The first three are expected to be Trent Alexander-Arnold, Dean Huijsen and Alvaro Carreras, with the fourth being a new midfielder.

Carlo Ancelotti’s side have struggled in midfield this season, with the void left by Toni Kroos proving to be too big. Furthermore, Aurelien Tchouameni and Eduardo Camavinga have gone through patches or poor form, with the latter having also been injured for a combined period of over four months.

Real Madrid decide to pursue midfielder signing

Xabi Alonso requested to Florentino Perez and the rest of the Real Madrid board for a midfielder to be signed, and despite initial hesitation, Marca have reported that it has been approved.

Three-man shortlist drawn up by club bosses

Despite previous interest, Martin Zubimendi won’t be the player that joins Real Madrid, as he has agreed terms with Arsenal. Instead, club bosses have identified three alternative targets: Angelo Stiller, Tijjani Reijnders and Ezequiel Palacios.

Stiller is reported to be the most likely candidate to sign at this stage, and his qualities are very much appreciated by Real Madrid. The Stuttgart man would cost in the region of €40m, which could be a very good deal.

Reijnders will be tricky to sign given that Manchester City are pushing hard to acquire him from Milan, but there could be more chances for Palacios, who worked under Alonso at Bayer Leverkusen.

It remains to be seen who Real Madrid go for. Stiller looks to be the clear candidate at this stage, but irrespective of whether it is him or not, it is now clear that a new midfielder will arrive at the Santiago Bernabeu this summer.
