Real Madrid are looking at the possibility of bringing in a new right-back this January given that Lucas Vazquez has been struggling and there is no depth in the position.

Los Blancos want to sign Trent Alexander-Arnold of Liverpool who is the primary target for the position. The idea was to bring him in as a free agent when his contract at Anfield expires at the end of the season.

But recent events have forced Real Madrid to consider fast-tracking his arrival in the current window itself, although Liverpool are unwilling to let their star man leave.

However, now, according to El Chiringuito TV’s Josep Pedrerol, Real Madrid may still sign Alexander-Arnold in January if Liverpool are open to selling him for a fee of around €35-40 million.

The report states that the England international will end up playing for Los Blancos next season but the possibility of him arriving in January is still not entirely off the table.

While Liverpool have been reluctant to let go of the right-back, Pedrerol’s report essentially suggests that Real Madrid would be willing to offer as much as €35-40 million to bring him to the Santiago Bernabeu this month.

The situation does highlight the desperation in the Real Madrid camp to reinforce the right-back position, especially after how badly Vazquez was exposed in last weekend’s El Clasico.

If the arrival of Alexander-Arnold does not materialise, the Merengues have drafted a possible shortlist of right-backs as stop-gap options until the end of the season, with Chelsea captain Reece James among those.
