The 2024/25 season is still not fully over for Real Madrid as they are scheduled to take part in the FIFA Club World Cup in the USA starting next month.
It will be first edition of the revamped competition with 32 teams from across the globe, with Real Madrid being one of the 12 clubs based in Europe.
The Merengues, who will have new manager Xabi Alonso in charge of the team at the tournament, have been drawn in Group H alongside RB Salzburg, CF Pachuca, and Al-Hilal.
Real Madrid will begin their journey at the FIFA Club World Cup with a match against Al-Hilal on June 18.
And, it could see the Spanish capital heavyweight come face-to-face against club legend and all-time leading goalscorer Cristiano Ronaldo.
Indeed, according to journalist Santi Aouna of Footmercato, Al-Hilal have made a contract offer for Cristiano, with his current deal at Al-Nassr set to run out on June 30.
The Portugal captain made a cryptic post on social media last night after Al-Nassr’s final game of the season, as he wrote: “This chapter is over. The story? Still being written. Grateful to all.”
Al-Nassr have presented Cristiano with an offer to renew his contract and prolong his stay at the club.
However, Al-Hilal, too, have come forth with a proposal for the veteran superstar as they intend to make a big-name signing following the January exit of Neymar Jr.
Ronaldo, for his part, is said to be seriously considering both options. But the lure of participating in the Club World Cup against some of the biggest clubs could tempt him into signing for Al-Hilal.
If the move goes through, the Portuguese maverick could get an opportunity to face Real Madrid, whom he left for Juventus back in 2018 after breaking all sorts of records with the club.
