FIFA recently announced the prize distribution for the tournament following its latest Council meeting. A total of $1 billion (€929 million) will be shared among the 32 teams participating in the competition.

The allocation of these funds is divided into two parts—€500 million will be distributed as a fixed amount to all participating clubs, while the remaining €429 million will be awarded based on performance in the tournament.

European clubs, which have historically dominated club football, will receive the largest share of the prize pool.

Out of the total amount, 12 teams from Europe—including Real Madrid, Manchester City, Chelsea, PSG, Bayern Munich, Porto, Atlético Madrid, Juventus, Benfica, Borussia Dortmund, and Red Bull Salzburg—will share €284 million.

What about Real Madrid?

Real Madrid are already set to receive the highest guaranteed amount before the tournament even begins. The club will earn €35 million, with €10 million being a fixed participation fee.

The remaining amount comes from various factors that FIFA considers, such as global viewership, historical success in international competitions, and the club’s commercial value.

The format of the tournament will resemble the FIFA World Cup, with 32 teams divided into eight groups of four.

Each team will play three matches in the group stage, with the top two from each group advancing to the knockout rounds. Teams will earn €2 million for each victory in the group stage, while a draw will be worth €1 million.

The knockout phase

Once the knockout phase begins, the financial rewards increase significantly. Reaching the round of 16 will bring in €7 million for each team.

Advancing to the quarter-finals will secure an additional €12 million, while the four semi-finalists will each receive €20 million.

The two finalists will be awarded €28 million each, with the champions taking home an additional €37 million in prize money.

If Real Madrid win all three of their group-stage matches and go on to lift the trophy on 13 July, they will collect a total of €145 million.

Interestingly, this figure surpasses the €119 million they earned for winning the UEFA Champions League last season.
