Real Madrid confirm Carlo Ancelotti exit with official statement as Xabi Alonso appointment draws closer

The legendary Italian already has his next job lined up as Real Madrid exit is confirmed

Real Madrid have officially announced Carlo Ancelotti will step down as manager following the LaLiga clash against Real Sociedad.

The legendary Italian returned to the club for a second spell in 2021, winning a pair of league titles as well as leading the club to further Champions League success in 2022 and 2024.

However, following a difficult campaign this year in which Los Blancos crashed out of Europe at the hands of Arsenal in the quarter-final, losing the Copa del Rey final to Barcelona whilst also surrendering the LaLiga title to their bitter rivals, a mutual agreement has been reached for a parting of ways.

Ancelotti is will receive his farewell from the Santiago Bernabeu faithful on Saturday afternoon as the league season concludes.

A statement reads: “Real Madrid CF and Carlo Ancelotti have reached an agreement to end his tenure as Real Madrid manager. Our club wishes to express its gratitude and affection to one of the greatest legends of Real Madrid and world football.

“Carlo Ancelotti led our team through one of the most successful periods in our 123-year history and has become the coach with the most titles in our history: three European Cups, three Club World Cups, three European Super Cups, two La Liga titles, two Copa del Rey titles, and two Spanish Super Cups. A total of 15 titles during his six seasons at our club.”

Meanwhile, Real Madrid president Florentino Pérez has said: "Carlo Ancelotti is now forever part of the great Real Madrid family. We are proud to have enjoyed a coach who has helped us achieve so much success and who has also represented the values of our club in an exemplary manner."

“Tomorrow, the Santiago Bernabéu will pay tribute to him in what will be Carlo Ancelotti's final match as Real Madrid manager.

“Real Madrid wishes him and his entire family the best of luck in this new stage of his life.”

From Monday, May 26, 2025, Ancelotti will start work as the new head coach of the Brazil national team after his appointment was confirmed earlier in the month.
