Real Madrid are always alert to up-and-coming youth talents from Spain and outside making a name for themselves.
For years, though, the Atletico Madrid youth sides were seen as off-limits, until the pact was broken when Los Blancos roped in Jesus Fortea.
Since then, Real Madrid have signed some more young talents from their local rivals, most recently Sergio Mestre, with the goalkeeper arriving this past summer.
Now, according to journalist Rodra, Real Madrid have their sights set on Atletico Madrid starlet and Under-19 team captain Jorge Castillo.
As per the report, Los Blancos have been following the Atletico youngster’s progress for many months and have expressed interest in the footballer, although they know it would be a very complicated signing due to the relationship between the player and Los Colchoneros.
Castillo has been making rapid strides at the Atleti youth academy and is now a permanent fixture in the Under-19 setup while he has also trained with the senior team on a number of occasions.
The 18-year-old midfielder has scored and assisted one goal apiece in the UEFA Youth League and his progress has not gone unnoticed at Real Madrid.
Castillo’s contract with Atletico expires in June next year and he has not yet renewed, although there have been some approaches from the red and white club.
Whether Real Madrid decide to make a move for the young prospect remains to be seen, although a move would not be straightforward considering the 18-year-old’s strong allegiance towards the Rojiblancos.
