Real Madrid want Manchester United to be involved in their pursuit of Álvaro Carreras, as per reports.

Real are expected to sign Liverpool right-back Trent Alexander-Arnold on a free transfer this summer. They are also understood to be in the market for a new left-back and have set their sights on Carreras.

The Spain U21 international graduated from United’s academy. After failing to convince Erik ten Hag, he moved to Benfica in the winter window of 2024. His promising performances swiftly convinced Benfica to exercise their purchase option worth €6 million.

The way Carreras has played under Bruno Lage has made him one of the most sought-after full-backs in Europe and has also led to question marks over United’s decision to sell him for peanuts.

Still, the Premier League giants did well to include a buy-back option, reported to be worth €18m.

The 22-year-old attacking left-back, who has notched four goals and registered five assists this season, was strongly linked with United in January but Ruben Amorim ultimately decided to sign Patrick Dorgu from Lecce.

Now, Spanish publication AS claim that Real want United to re-sign Carreras in the summer.

It is suggested that the La Liga heavyweights are interested in Carreras but they are not willing to meet Benfica’s asking price, thought to be €60m.

Accordingly, Real want United to act as a bridge between them and Benfica by triggering the Spaniard’s clause.

The expectation is that the Red Devils would then agree to sell him to Los Blancos for €30-35m.

The Spanish outfit’s alleged idea has been described as a “win-win situation” for both parties.

Financially, United would certainly benefit from the proposed move and INEOS have shown their willingness to adopt creative measures in their bid to ease PSR concerns. AS, however, fail to mention what Carreras thinks about Real’s plan.
