Teenage Real Betis defender Alex Perez is right on the verge of signing for Inter Milan.

This according to Italian transfer market journalist Nicolo Schira. He reports on Twitter that the 18-year-old Spaniard will sign on an initial loan deal containing a purchase option.

One area of the pitch in which Inter are looking to strengthen for the future is the defense.

Whilst there is plenty of reliable experience in the current options of the backline, there is also the sense that key players like Stefan de Vrij and Francesco Acerbi are on the way out due to their age.

Therefore, Inter are looking to bring in younger defenders as well.

Last summer, the Nerazzurri signed 23-year-old German youth team international Yann Bisseck.

Bisseck came in from Aarhus. He arrived for a relatively modest transfer fee, reflecting the fact that he had yet to really prove himself in a top European league.

And Inter’s gamble on Bisseck paid off.

The German emerged as a genuine starting-quality option in defense over the season just gone as the Nerazzurri won the Serie A title.

Considering that Perez is still only eighteen, it is not as though Inter expect the Spaniard to play a role in the first team as Bisseck did last season.

Rather, reports indicate that the Nerazzurri will have the defender play with their Under-19 side.

However, Inter do by all accounts see Perez as a future player with the senior squad.

The Nerazzurri will offer Perez a pathway into the first team over the next few seasons.

Considering that Perez’s current contract with Betis runs out at the end of next June, he will extend his deal so that he can join Inter on loan, reports Schira.

Then, Inter will sign the 18-year-old on a one-season loan deal.

That loan deal will contain the option for Inter to sign Perez on a permanent basis. In that case, he will sign a contract with the Nerazzurri until the end of June 2028, reports Schira.
