Chelsea have signed a large number of promising young players in recent transfer windows, betting on footballers who still need time and space to grow. However, this bet also forces the club to carefully manage each player’s minutes. Among those who have been somewhat relegated is Marc Guiu, a 19-year-old Spanish striker who arrived with high hopes in 2024.
His signing generated some excitement after his breakthrough into Barcelona‘s first team, but Stamford Bridge has not been fertile ground for his development. Competition is fierce, and playing time has not come as regularly as expected.
According to TBR Football, French club RC Strasbourg have their sights set on Guiu as a reinforcement for next season. The young striker has had few real opportunities in London and needs to go out on loan. In France, they like his physical profile and his instinct in the box, and believe he could adapt well to Ligue 1. In addition, Ipswich Town, newly promoted to the Premier League, are also interested in signing him. Strasbourg and Chelsea share the same owner, which could pave the way for a loan deal to be finalised in the coming days.

Chelsea have to make a decision based on what the player really needs. At the moment, Guiu is not gaining anything by sitting on the bench or playing residual matches with the U21s. At his age, he needs rhythm, confidence and a competitive environment where he can make mistakes and learn.
Strasbourg has proven that they know how to work with young players and would be a logical destination. If the loan goes ahead, Guiu could gain valuable minutes, and Chelsea would have the opportunity to evaluate him from a distance without losing control over his future.
Another option, however, is to analyse whether there is really a place for him in the long term. If there isn’t, a sale with a buy-back option could benefit all parties. The player would settle in without the uncertainty of a loan, the buying club would bet on him, knowing that they can keep him for more than a year, and Chelsea would ensure a return in case of an explosion. In addition, going to Ipswich would mean staying in England and learning in a very physical league, which could polish other aspects of his game. But if the goal is to play immediately, France seems the most logical option.
