RB Leipzig have today confirmed that Assan Ouédraogo underwent surgery in Turku, Finland, after suffering a muscular and tendon injury in his left thigh during last weekend’s Champions League match against Inter.

The German youth international, who joined Leipzig from Schalke 04 for €10m in the summer, has played just 70 minutes across all competitions for Die Roten Bullen this season after struggling with injury. Regarded as one of the brightest prospects in German football, Ouédraogo has already missed 18 games for club and country with a knee injury, before suffering his latest injury last week.

“It’s obviously a big blow for him and for us, too,” said Marcel Schafer on losing Ouédraogo. “Assan had just fought his way back into the team and made good progress. He will receive all the support he needs from us and from the entire team. We wish him all the best for a speedy and full recovery.”

As reported by Bild, Ouédraogo was operated on by Professor Lasse Lempainen, who is regarded as a specialist in his area and has previously operated on Barcelona’s Ronald Araujo (23) and PSG’s Ousmane Dembélé (25).
