RB Leipzig are seriously interested in making a move for Rennes centre-back Jérémy Jacquet (19), according to a report from Foot Mercato. The 19-year-old has seamlessly slotted into Habib Beye’s first-team set-up after spending the first half of the 2024-2025 campaign on loan at Clermont Foot. When Rennes’ season spiralled out of control under the guidance of Jorge Sampaoli, with too many goals conceded by Steve Mandanda and Brice Samba, Les Rouge et Noir opted to sign Anthony Rouault, Lilian Brassier and to recall Jacquet from his Clermont loan, even if it meant spending €900k for a player they already have in their books.
The tall and versatile Stade Rennais youth product has shown so far that he belongs at the level in Ligue 1, even though he is still only 19. Jacquet’s skill set has naturally caught the attention of several high-profile clubs. “The truth is, he’s being watched by very good clubs in Europe“, Beye notably said.
Foot Mercato understands that Rennes greatly value the France U21 centre-back. Jacquet is tied with Rennes until 2027, although the Ligue 1 club will trigger a further year in his contract should he play a certain number of games. The outlet adds that Bundesliga side RB Leipzig have already set their sights on signing him, as Castello Lukeba may leave the Red Bull Arena this summer.
