RB Leipzig considering Cesc Fabregas, as they continue their search for a new head coach | OneFootball

Leipziger Volkszeitung reports that Cesc Fabregas is under consideration at RB Leipzig as they continue their search for Marco Rose’s replacement.

Fabregas is currently the head coach of Italian side Como. The team on the bank of Lake Como is in their first season back in Serie A and is one of the wealthiest teams in the league. Stuttgart had previously been linked to the World Cup winner.

Leipzig will hope to make use of a mutual acquaintance to get the deal done. Thierry Henry is currently a shareholder at Como and has a good relationship with Red Bull Managing Director Oliver Mintzlaff due to Henry’s time at New York Red Bulls in the twilight of his career, it went as far as Mintzlaff looking to appoint Henry as Leipzig sporting director in 2022, but Max Eberl was hired instead.

A potential hiring of Fabregas would be against the grain when it comes to the names that Leipzig have been linked with over the past week and a half. Every former Red Bull coach under the sun has been linked with the vacant Leipzig role: Oliver Glasner, Roger Schmidt, Matthias Jaissle, Danny Röhl and Alexander Blessin, all of whom have coached within the Red Bull system at some point in their career.
