Rangers fans, get ready, because April 23rd promises to be a significant day at Edmiston House. Patrick Stewart, the club’s CEO, will conduct his first fan forum since taking over in December of last year. For those who have been eagerly anticipating any news regarding an American takeover of the club, this would seem to be an ideal opportunity for Stewart to put your minds at ease. But don’t expect any announcements. At best, he might hint at something being in the works, but no more. Instead, this is likely to be a forum where fans can air their views and receive some reassurances from Stewart about the club’s future. (Stewart, 2025)
The real action, however, happens on the field and in the locker room. Fans may also get pretty animated about the subject of who should be the new manager. Barry Ferguson is currently serving as the interim manager. Some fans like the idea of Ferguson transitioning into the permanent manager’s role. Others see him as merely a placeholder. The fan forum might get pretty lively around that point of discussion, and it’s hard to imagine that Stewart would be able to keep something like that under wraps too tight. (Stewart, 2025)
There’s a lot of excitement around the next manager appointment, but there’s also a lot of thrilling stuff happening off the field. Kevin Thelwell, who just left Everton, is the frontrunner for a vital role: sporting director. Thelwell has the experience Ibrox needs to make this work. It’s a safe guess that he’s going to be the guy who takes over as the sporting director, and his hiring should bode well for the club. This is going to be a huge part of the forum, and I fully expect Stewart to talk about the sporting director role and its importance. The Ibrox board and Stewart himself seem to have figured out that a clear vision is necessary to get us back to competing with the European clubs and Celtic. (Thelwell, 2025)
Let’s also remember one of those more lighthearted topics that fans still very much care about: the new kit! The club hasn’t officially announced anything about new kit designs or when they might be launched (and actually, this forum is not a part of the club anyway), but this kind of gathering seems to be a great place for supporters (like those die-hard Rangers fans you mentioned) to get their feelings across—especially for something as important as the kit! After all, the kit is what makes the difference between a fan walking around in just a T-shirt and being decked out like a proper member of the team. So who knows? Maybe they’ll give us a hint on what’s coming next season. (Steel, 2025)
And a bit of a surprise: some supporters have been asking why Diet Coke disappeared from the kiosks at Ibrox (Well-Known, 2025). This might not seem like a big deal, but for the fans, it is. It’s part of the whole matchday experience. Fans feel a deep connection to the club, and that extends to the matchday refreshments. So even if it seems trivial, the question does actually matter, and the fans appreciate getting an answer, or at least some kind of explanation.
What can we anticipate from this upcoming fan forum? It may not guarantee any earth-shattering announcements, but it is likely to offer a wealth of information on what the Rangers, under Patrick Stewart, intend to do to handle the turbulent times apparently lying ahead. These are marked, it seems, by uncertainty concerning the ownership of the club, a management structure that may or may not be undergoing significant reshuffles soon, and a club culture that may or may not be undergoing significant shifts in the near term. Any supporter intensely interested in the current storm of decisions being made concerning the “off-field” battles in which the club is involved as it tries to retain the pride and glory that it has always pursued can gain some valuable insights by attending the forum held at NEH on the 23rd of April.
