Rangers are in talks to sign Everton striker Youssef Chermiti on loan as manager Russell Martin looks to save his job, according to the Daily Mail.

Martin is under mounting pressure after the Ibrox club’s underwhelming start to 2025-26 reached its peak last night.

Rangers lost 6-0 to Club Brugge in the second leg of the Champions League play-offs, but Martin’s bosses have told him that he will be in charge against Celtic on Sunday.

He is desperate to hold on to his job, and Chermiti could be on his way to Rangers in a temporary deal.

The 21-year-old Portuguese striker wants regular playing opportunities after struggling for game time since joining Everton from Sporting CP in a £12.5 million deal in 2023.

Chermiti made 20 appearances in his debut campaign with the Premier League club but was restricted to four appearances last season.

The Portuguese youth international will fancy his chances of impressing in the Scottish Premiership, and Rangers could do with him when they take on Celtic this weekend.

The Bears have bolstered their squad with the additions of Jayden Meghoma, Lyall Cameron, Djeidi Gassama, Thelo Aasgaard and Manny Fernandez this summer.

They have also signed Nasser Djiga, Max Aarons, Mikey Moore, Joe Rothwell, Oliver Antman and Oscar Cortes.

However, the 9-1 aggregate defeat to Club Brugge was a significant setback.

Chermiti has potential but is not very prolific after struggling to replicate his performances in youth football at senior level.

Despite this, Martin is convinced that Chermiti has what it takes to improve his attack, and is hoping the youngster proves him right.
