Panathinaikos pushed for an early opening goal inside 20 minutes and went close twice, with Tasos Bakasetas shooting just wide before Fotis Ioannidis' close-range header was saved by Jack Butland.

Rangers grew into the first half and almost extended their aggregate lead when Nico Raskin connected with Joe Rothwell's cross, but headered just over the bar.

Panathinaikos opened the scoring just after half time after Filip Duričić beat the Gers' offside trap and nodded Anastasios Bakasetas' cross past Butland.

The Greek side's lead on the night was short-lived as Djeidi Gassama, just three minutes after coming on as a substitute, reacted to a loose ball inside the Panathinaikos area and half-volleyed the equaliser off the post and into the net.

Russell Martin's Rangers are now unbeaten in nine consecutive matches and will face either Servette or FC Viktoria Plzeň in the Champions League third qualifying round.
