Rangers manager Philippe Clement is certainly under pressure at the moment, with results going against the Ibrox giants and performances creaking badly.
Rangers fans are highly vocal about wanting a new manager, with Clement struggling badly to keep the squad or team ticking, and Ibrox Noise has been canvassing for opinion.
From what we’ve learned, there are four men Rangers supporters particularly endorse to replace the Belgian, and those men are:
Kilmarnock manager Derek McInnes.
Shanghai Port boss Kevin Muscat.
Al-Ettifaq manager Steven Gerrard.
Hadjuk Split manager Rino Gattuso.
Rangers of course have massive history with all four of these men – 3 being ex-players, one being an ex-manager.
From what we’ve seen in our polls, Muscat is the least popular choice, but then that was before he won a stunning third title in a different country (China, following up on Japan and Australia) so that may have changed (EDIT: he is now top choice based on new poll – who says fans are consistent?).
McInnes and Gattuso were more of a middling choice, but both are doing superb jobs with their respective clubs, so maybe that will change too.
But unsurprisingly the most popular choice previously was 55-winning Steven Gerrard, whose star still shines brightly for many Rangers fans, who see him as the best we’ve had since Walter and that title-winning trophy his big bow to his cap.
We are running another poll to get a more up to date result and set of numbers for you, but we still suspect Gerrard will be among the most popular.
Do we agree with that?
Gerrard was far from flawless, but he’s the only man to win a Rangers SPL title since Walter.
In 13 years, he’s the only one. He had £35M to spend and 3 years to do it, but he showed early on he could beat Celtic.
And that was on a budget of just £10M that first summer. He signed brilliantly – McGregor, Barisic, Arfield, Davis, Katic… although there were many duffers in there too of course. Remember Grezda, anyone?
So it can be done with the right man and a modest budget. Who now, according to Rangers fans today, is Muscat!
We can’t keep up…
