Rangers captain James Tavernier ‘confirms’ Rangers exit

Rangers captain James Tavernier appears to have ‘confirmed’ his Ibrox departure following his controversial social media post revealing his season highlights but blocking anyone from making any comments on it.

Doing the same as fellow exiting Ranger John Lundstram (who is now signed up at Trabzonspor alongside Borna Barisic), Tavernier inexplicably included Celtic match ‘highlights’ in there despite Rangers’ tragic record against their Old Firm rivals last season, and this has set many tongues wagging on his future.

The simple fact is that Tavernier’s Rangers race is run, and he knows it – whether he goes to Steven Gerrard’s Al-Ettifaq, or somewhere down south, the right back had another, overall, bad season last campaign and with a summer of massive change happening at Rangers, he is no longer indispensible the way he was.

Even his manager Philippe Clement could only say he ‘expected’ him to be at Rangers next season, not that he ‘hoped’ he would be.

And those sentiments seem to have filtered to the player himself, who posted that ‘highlights’ reel of the season past.

Unfortunately, the League Cup triumph is a distant memory, and even most Rangers fans who back the manager don’t use that trophy as evidence he’s the right man – we didn’t beat Celtic to secure it, even if any trophy is indeed a season highlight.

And Tavernier has done the same as Lunny, posting his own highlights and limiting or blocking anyone from commenting on it.

That’s a huge deal – to block the comments.

We know at Ibrox Noise that Tavernier has blocked at least one of our staff on social media, a staff member who never attacked him on any level or criticised him, so he has previous for being a bit precious on the social media platforms.

And now he’s blocking comments from his highlights – which is, of course, his choice to do, but he’s in the public domain and this only makes a Rangers departure look so much more likely.

And he’s doing little to kill that speculation.
