Manchester United loanee Radek Vitek is already making a strong impression at his new club.
The Czech keeper enjoyed a successful loan spell at FC Blau-Weiß Linz last season in the Austrian Bundesliga.
After Andre Onana picked up an injury in pre-season, it was thought that United might give Vitek a chance to stake a claim for the number one spot on the tour of the United States.
Nonetheless, this did not come to pass and there were rumours that the keeper would go back on loan to Austria to Sturm Graz.
There were also reports that Millwall may have been an option but he finally completed a loan switch to Bristol City late last month.
The 21-year-old made his debut over the weekend in a pre-season win over Real Valladolid and he has already made a strong impression.
In comments carried by Bristol Live, The Robins’ manager, Gerhard Struber, was clearly impressed by what he witnessed.
Vitek managed to keep a clean sheet in a 4-0 victory but also had a major moment to shine in the first half.
He instantly became a hero at Ashton Gate as he saved Marcos Andre’s penalty.
Reacting to the performance Struber stated, “I think we have, of course, right now a great goalkeeping, coaching team that can do it on a very, very good level.”
Turning his attention specifically to the United academy graduate he claimed, “Radek, I would say, gives us also, in this direction, a little bit of a different strength.”
He added, “I am very, very excited to have him here, and also today, he showed us, in many moments, how important he can be for this team.”
United fans will surely be keeping a close eye on his development as he tries to prove himself in one of the most competitive leagues in world football.
