France international Adrien Rabiot shrugged off questions about his future with Juventus, Milan and Manchester United interested, while he took a sideswipe at Italy’s EURO 2024 performances.

The midfielder started in today’s 1-0 win over Belgium, which was decided by a Jan Vertonghen own goal late on, but was booked for the second time in the tournament.

That means he will be suspended for the quarter-final, which is scheduled for Friday against either Portugal or Slovenia.

He is now a free agent, as his contract with Juventus expired yesterday, but remains in negotiations to sign a new deal, as well as fielding interest from Milan and Manchester United.

“I have not made any decisions yet. I don’t know what will happen, but I don’t want to talk about that,” Rabiot told reporters in the mixed zone.

“I think the fans understand I am focused on the Euros and we’ll see what happens later. My focus is 100 per cent here, then obviously I am also in contact with the club. I will decide after the European Championship.”

Rabiot ‘not surprised’ by Italy flop

While France are through to the quarter-finals, Italy crashed out in a 2-0 defeat to Switzerland in the Round of 16. Was Rabiot shocked by that?

“Considering what we’d seen in the group stage, it was kind of to be expected. Switzerland were in much better form, I cannot say I am surprised by Italy’s elimination.

“It is also a young team and needs more time to work with a new coach. They will have the opportunity to do better in the following years.”

France are facing a lot of criticism too, as in four games they have hit the back of the net only three times – with one penalty and two own goals.

However, Rabiot quoted his old Juventus coach Max Allegri when responding.

“Playing beautifully doesn’t matter. Just look at Italy, they weren’t beautiful and didn’t win either. It’s like Allegri says, being beautiful doesn’t matter, you have to be effective.

“I am proud of the group, I think we deserve to be in the next round and I have faith I’ll be able to come back and play in the semi-final.”
