Juventus have started to plan out a new contract for Adrien Rabiot as they look to avoid a repeat of last summer.

The 29-year-old Frenchman has around six weeks left on his contract in the Piedmont capital, putting him on track to leave the club on a free transfer at the end of the season. He has continued to be an important part of the squad in Turin under Massimiliano Allegri.

Last year, Rabiot was only days away from leaving Juventus before he penned a one-year renewal, worth around €7.5m net per season, leaving him as one of the highest paid players in the squad. Sporting director Cristiano Giuntoli is desperately working to reduce the wage bill ahead of next season.

Page five of today’s Corriere dello Sport details how Juventus are hoping to offer Rabiot a two-year deal to spread out his €7.5m salary, keen to retain the midfielder whilst also lightening up their wage bill.

Talks have already been opened with his mother-agent Veronique, but the details will start to be discussed after the Coppa Italia final. He has promised to make a decision ahead of the European Championship.
