AC Milan will make the trip to face Venezia in the lunchtime kick-off hoping to begin a strong finish to their Serie A campaign.
As Quotidiano Sportivo write this morning, Milan are nine points away from the Champions League places, which is abysmal to say the very least. Yet, the Coppa Italia final against Bologna next month provides an opportunity to reach the Europa League.
Milan are ‘looking for answers at the end of a paradoxical year’. Ninth place in the league, but the possibility of winning two trophies in one season: something that has not happened since the days of Carlo Ancelotti.
That was a different time: the European Super Cup and Club World Cup in 2007. Sergio Conceiçao meanwhile has his bags practically already packed, while waiting for the club to finally answer the question related to the next sporting director.
Speaking of which, Igli Tare remains in the running but so does Tony D’Amico, under contract with Atalanta just like Giovanni Sartori is with Bologna, another name admired. Regarding the mercato: given the Rossoneri’s liking for Vincenzo Italiano, the interest in Riccardo Orsolini is confirmed.
On the pitch, today’s game and the appointment on Monday 5 May with Genoa will be a test run towards the double crossover, first in the league at San Siro and then, on 14 May, in Rome in the Coppa Italia final.
It will be a test run of sorts, considering the new 3-4-3 launched by Conceiçao against Udinese. Since then, seven goals scored, one conceded and, above all, the same starting line-up. Against Venezia, the same is expected again.
