Cifuentes comfortably guided the Rs to Championship safety this season after taking over from Gareth Ainsworth with the club in the relegation zone.

The 41-year-old has been linked with the managerial vacancy at Sunderland, and QPR fans will hope that the Spaniard is still in West London next season.

Now that the transfer window is open, the Hoops will be looking at potential new additions as they attempt to push on next term in what will be Cifuentes' first full season in charge.

There is plenty of work to be done on QPR's squad ahead of the next campaign, so let's take a look at a few of the rumours surrounding the club.

QPR are interested in a move for Joe Morrell

QPR, Wrexham and Birmingham City are reportedly interested in Portsmouth midfielder Joe Morrell, who is out of contract this summer, according to journalist Phil Cadden.

Pompey have decided not to take up their option to extend the Welshman's contract, as they prepare for life back in the Championship after winning the League One title last season.

The 27-year-old has made 105 appearances for Portsmouth and has 37 caps for his country. He could be a shrewd addition to Cifuentes' side going into the 2024/25 campaign, who need another midfield option after Isaac Hayden's loan move from Newcastle United came to an end.

Morrell will be available on a free transfer after leaving Fratton Park, so it is no surprise to see that he is attracting interest, and QPR are one of the clubs that could make a move for him.

QPR are one of a number of clubs interested in signing Rotherham United defender Cameron Humphreys, according to Football Insider. Sheffield Wednesday, Millwall and Swansea City are also reportedly keen on the 25-year-old, who made 25 appearances in the Championship this season as the Millers were relegated back to League One.

Rotherham boss Steve Evans, who left Stevenage for the New York Stadium towards the back end of last season, was in a lighthearted mood as he spoke to the Rotherham Advertiser, denying that he was aware of any interest in the defender:

"If he's mentioned with Wednesday then I'm not surprised if he's mentioned with Thursday and Friday as well.

Cameron has been really good for me in the three games he's played but we are not aware of any interest from any club."

It appears as though Evans wants to keep his cards close to his chest as rumours persist that Championship clubs are interested in Humphreys.

Portsmouth boss Mousinho speaks on QPR target Murphy

Pompey boss John Mousinho has described Oxford United's Josh Murphy as a "fantastic player" as the chase for the winger continues, according to The News. QPR, Portsmouth, Sunderland, Derby County, West Bromwich Albion and Hull City are all reportedly keen on the former Norwich City man, as well as Oxford wanting to tie Murphy down with a new contract.

Mousinho spoke about Murphy, who scored a brace as Oxford beat Bolton Wanderers 2-0 in the League One play-off final:

"There is links with Josh because I played for him previously, but whether we've got any interest or not it's something we have to leave alone and not really comment on."

QPR will have to beat a number of clubs if they are to bring Murphy to Loftus Road this summer.

Sinclair Armstrong could yet be sold despite new contract

QPR have triggered a one-year extension to Sinclair Armstrong's contract and offered the 20-year-old an extended deal. However, the promising forward may yet leave Loftus Road this summer, according to Adam Leventhal of The Athletic.

Armstrong scored three goals in the Championship this season, and QPR will want to tie him down, but with only a year left on his contract it remains to be seen whether he will still be at the club after the transfer window.
