Leeds United have ignited their keen interest in adding Southampton striker Cameron Archer to their roster.
Many English clubs know that Southampton are a treasure trove of young and talented players. A prime example of that can be seen in the Tyler Dibling transfer situation.
The elite trio of Tottenham Hotspur, Manchester United and Newcastle United have all been circling to sign the promising winger. Understandably so, as Dibling has been leading Southampton's attack so far.
Still, the 18-year-old isn't topping the scoring charts for the Saints in the current campaign. Instead, it's Cameron Archer with five goals across the Premier League and the cup competitions.
Hence, he could be the next high profile Southampton player who can attract significant transfer interest. While Southampton may have assumed it to happen later, a January transfer isn't ruled out yet.
Recently, TBR Football have reported that Leeds United have asked Southampton about this possibility.
A career path from Southampton to Championship and vice-versa has become a common one in recent years. Further, Leeds are Championship leaders and would most likely replace Southampton in the next Premier League campaign.
Therefore, it's an intriguing transfer opportunity for a talented attacker like Archer. One, which former Southampton target Cody Gakpo would have openly welcomed if given a chance between these two clubs.
Yet, making a good call here could be difficult for Archer. The 23-year-old striker had struggled initially under Russell Martin but quickly turned the tide in his favour.
To give an idea, Archer has scored against both Arsenal and Liverpool. That's a big achievement for any forward especially when he manages this at a bottom table team like Southampton.
Thus, Southampton will have to bring a proven attacker if Archer prefers to join Leeds United. If not, then Archer already knows he has his work cut out to become a regular starter under Ivan Juric.
