Pride, Spirit, and Current begin the 2025 NWSL season with wins

MIAMI — The women’s soccer schedule continues to build up across Concacaf W leagues, with NWSL becoming the latest season to kick off its 2025 campaign.
NJ/NY Gotham FC and Portland Thorns have started to play in official matches while Mexican sides Club América and Tigres UANL continue in excellent form in Liga MX Femenil as the build-up continues to May’s 2024/25 Concacaf W Champions Cup Finals.
NWSL: 2025 season kicks off
The opening weekend of the 2025 NWSL season saw the 2024 finalists get underway with victories. Reigning NWSL Championship and Shield winners Orlando Pride opened the proceedings with a 6-nil win at home against Chicago Red Stars, while the Washington Spirit won 2-1 at the Houston Dash.
Kansas City Current was the only other club to win on the opening weekend, a 3-1 home victory over the Portland Thorns.
Gotham FC earned a 1-1 draw at Seattle Reign. History was made as 14-year-old Mak Whitham debuted in the 90’+3, becoming the youngest player in NWSL history.
USL Super League: Fort Lauderdale United FC defeats Brooklyn for first place
There is a new leader in the USL Super League 2024/25 standings after Fort Lauderdale United FC won 2-nil at Brooklyn FC. Carolina Ascent FC remained in third place despite losing 1-nil to Tampa Bay Sun FC.
Spokane Zephyr FC earned a 3-2 win over DC Power FC in the weekend’s other encounter.
Liga MX Femenil: Tigres UANL surge jumps to third overall
CF Pachuca earned a 1-nil win against Puebla FC stay atop the Liga MX Femenil Clausura 2025 standings. An 18’ goal from Ella Sanchez was enough to see Las Tuzas retain the top spot. Club América continues to stay on the heels of the leaders with a 1-1 draw at FC Juárez.
Tigres UANL rose to the third-place spot with a 7-nil victory against Mazatlán FC. Goals from Sandra Mayor, Jennifer Hermoso, Jacqueline Ovalle, and braces from Jheniffer Da Silva and Deiry Ramírez delivered the victory.
Pumas UNAM fell to fourth on goal difference but extended its unbeaten streak to four with a 1-nil victory against Club Tijuana. Ximena Rios scored the match-winning goal in the 21’.
CD Guadalajara was also among the weekend winners, keeping pace in the playoff race with a 3-1 win against Club León.
