The Arne Slot revolution continues at Liverpool.

With a scrappy 2-1 win over Wolves following a midweek 5-1 demolition job of West Ham in the League Cup, you’d be forgiven that thinking Slot already has everything he needs in his squad. With the promise that the rotation showed midweek and the starting XI’s return to form yesterday, it’s difficult to know where Liverpool would need to improve.

What will it cost?

But the links to German attacking midfielder Florian Wirtz just won’t go away. BILD’s Christian Falk is now reporting that Wirtz wants to leave his current Bayer Leverkusen team in 2025, and that Leverkusen have set an asking price of €150m.

Falk also reports that Liverpool will face competition from fellow European giants Bayern Munich, Real Madrid and Manchester City. Bayern have a long history of poaching top-level talent from fellow German sides, whereas there is a real possibility that Wirtz could be lining up alongside Liverpool’s star right-back Trent Alexander-Arnold if Real Madrid were to secure his services.

Wirtz’s Bayer Leverkusen side had a difficult time on Saturday evening, running out a dogged 1-1 draw with Bayern Munich, whose 11-straight Bundesliga title streak they broke last season. Wirtz registered only two Key Passes and one dribble in the entire game, with Leverkusen occupying a tough defensive shape throughout the match.

Wirtz could be seen scrapping with former-Crystal Palace star Michael Olise, who had multiple good chances to score throughout the game. Leverkusen took the lead on the 31st minute through midfielder Robert Anrich’s 20-yard arrowed strike, before being pegged back by a truly miraculous 30-yard volley from Bayern’s Aleksandar Pavolovic.

Xabi Alonso’s men currently sit third in the Bundesliga table, three points behind Bayern and one point behind Red Bull Leipzig. If they are going to be successful on a long-term basis, retaining the attacking midfielder’s services will be crucial to that.
