Luton Town host Bristol City this Monday at Kenilworth Road in Matchweek 44 of the EFL Championship.
The Hatters are on 43 points after a vital 0-1 win against Derby County last time out, which have a shot in the arm to their chances of avoiding the drop.
Liam Manning's Robins are at the other end of the table in fifth, a play-off place beckoning after their 2-1 triumph against Sunderland on Good Friday.
The last meeting between the two teams saw Bristol City win the reverse fixture 1-0.
Simon (Luton Town Exile): Luton’s MASSIVE win at fellow relegation threatened Derby on Good Friday was absolutely huge.
Not just because of the fact it was a massive six-pointer but because the dogged, determined, resilient second half display, together with the three points and clean sheet, will have done wonders for confidence and will have increased everyone’s belief that survival may be possible.
It’s certainly less impossible now. Three games left and the next two at home. All against current playoff chasing sides. Consecutive home games should be a good thing but Town’s recent points haul at Kenilworth Road has been poor. That needs to change. Easter Monday’s game against a Bristol City side that’s flying will have to be tackled without Kal Naismith who is on loan from the Robins. That’s a big loss.
But Luton have the fight, the bit of momentum, and defensive tightness to be competitive against City. And chances are still being made. It’s the most important game of the season (again) and Town simply have to look after number one and take the points. Can they beat a side on a roll? It will be difficult but they can especially if Milli Alli and Thelo Aasgaard continue to impress. It will be another agonising 90 minutes but Town can, have to, and, I think, will win it by the odd goal in three.
Ben Mead (Robins on Tour): After another terrific win on home soil, the reds are now in touching distance of confirming a play-off place, for the first time in 17 years, as they travel to Kenilworth Road on Monday. If results go our way and Liam Manning's side come away from Luton with all three points our play-off place could be confirmed to possibly finish off a brilliant Easter weekend!
However, it will not be easy. Luton Town coming off the back of a fantastic win away at Derby, to keep their survival hopes alive and the Hatter's will be well up for it, with just goal difference currently separating themselves and Championship safety.
City will look to build on their performance on good Friday. Ending the game with over 75% possession and 27 shots against a very good Sunderland side. It could be argued that without Sunderland's early red card, it may have been a different game. But Bristol City showed they could break down a really good Sunderland side in the second half and will hope to build on that on Monday afternoon.
If I'm being completely honest, I'm not entirely confident heading into the game. Our away form is nowhere near as good as our home form, and Luton have got themselves a lifeline after the win on Friday and will not let that go easily. However, if we play like we did on Friday, there's no reason we cannot bring another three points back to BS3!
