Eintracht are determined to show a reaction to Wednesday’s DFB Cup exit and continue a number of impressive runs.

Backdrop Time to shake off the disappointment of the DFB Cup defeat at Leipzig, hit the reset button and focus on the next assignment. Eintracht had been on a nine-match unbeaten run – including seven victories – in all competitions before suffering their first defeat since 19 October at Bayern Leverkusen, but they have an immediate opportunity to put things right. “We don’t have much time,” Ansgar Knauff said after Wednesday evening’s loss. “We can be frustrated today, but we then need to turn our full attention to the weekend and getting another three points.”

The Eagles have won four Bundesliga games in a row since drawing with Union Berlin at the end of October, and they will be keen to continue that impressive run when they host FC Augsburg at 15:30 CET on Saturday 7 December. “We want to show a reaction – and I’m sure we will show a reaction,” said head coach Dino Toppmöller.

With 26 points after 12 games, Eintracht are enjoying one of the best top-flight seasons in their history. Only once before – in 1993/94 – have they had more points at this stage of the campaign, while they are also unbeaten on home soil since losing to Leverkusen on 5 May. That superb run in front of their own fans has been the foundation of Frankfurt’s rise to second place in the table.

Thirteenth-placed Augsburg have struggled on their travels this term, their tally of one point from five away matches so far equalling an unwanted club record. The visitors are without a win in their past nine away matches stretching back to last season – the longest barren run among current top-flight teams.

More first-half joy?

After drawing a blank in their opening league game of the season, the Eagles have found the net in all 12 Bundesliga matches since. They struck in the first half for the 11th top-flight game in succession at Heidenheim last weekend, and they will be hoping for more of the same at Deutsche Bank Park this Saturday.
