Liverpool return to action for the first time since the death of Diogo Jota as they face Preston in a pre-season friendly. On what is sure to be an emotional day at Deepdale, tributes will be paid to Jota and his brother Andre Silva after they died in a car crash last week.

A rendition of You’ll Never Walk Alone will be played ahead of kick-off, while there will be a minute’s silence and both teams will wear black armbands. Preston captain Ben Whiteman will lay a wreath in front of the away fans.

Arne Slot’s Premier League champions are playing their first pre-season friendly of the summer and new £116million Florian Wirtz is in line to make his first Liverpool appearance.
