Former Gunners Freddie Ljungberg and Cesc Fabregas believe Arsenal have trophies in their near future, whether they win the league this year or not.

There’s no denying that Manchester City are the clear favourites to win the Premier League on the final day, with a two-point advantage over Arsenal and a home game against West Ham United to finish the campaign.

The Gunners have the slim hope provided by a goal-difference advantage over Pep Guardiola’s side, knowing a win and a City draw would swing the race in their favour.

But whether or not Mikel Arteta’s side benefit from that kind of late drama, former Arsenal stars Freddie Ljungberg and Cesc Fabregas have insisted the team are on the right track.

“It is a matter of time,” Ljungberg told The Athletic. “If they don’t win it this year, they have a young team with the future in front of them. There will be trophies in the future.

“Guys, if not this season, you just need to keep on playing and keep on believing.”

Fabregas added: “Taking it to the last game of the season against a top Manchester City team, you couldn’t ask for more.

“They are a young team and they keep growing and keep getting better. They always add one or two players who make a good difference.

“For sure they are on the up, and soon they will win it, if not this year.”

There’s still the potential for one last twist in the title race, and Arsenal have to go into their game against Everton focused on the task of securing all three points.

As long as they do their job, this Arsenal squad can have no regrets about how this last month has played out.

Beating Wolves, Chelsea, Spurs, Bournemouth, and Manchester United on the bounce was something few expected, and it’s kept the team in contention until the final day.

Whether it proves to be enough or not, the job is simple. Win the final game, and push on again in the transfer market this summer.
