Premier League target Cherki announces decision to leave Lyon

Rayan Cherki has decided to leave Lyon this summer, amid interest in the winger from the Premier League and Europe.
Cherki is on the radar of several Premier League clubs, following another impressive campaign in Ligue 1. The 21-year-old scored eight goals and added 11 assists in Ligue 1 this season, helping Lyon to a sixth-place finish.
He added a further 12 goals and assists in 12 Europa League appearances as the French side reached the quarter-finals. No player has provided more assists (8) in the Europa League this season.
Chelsea, Manchester United and Liverpool have all been linked with Cherki, who is reported to have a release clause of just €22.5 million (£19m) in his Lyon contract. He has announced his decision to leave Lyon this summer after the club failed to secure Champions League qualiication.
“Thanks to OL, the coach, the staff, the president, my teammates and all people at the club,” Cherki said in the mixed zone after Lyon concluded their Ligue 1 campaign with a 2-0 win against Angers on Saturday.
In addition to his 31 goal involvements in 43 games this season, Cherki has ranked in the top 5% of wingers in Europe’s top five leagues for chances created, carries, through balls, progressive passes and touches per 90 minutes.
This season, Cherki led Ligue 1 for assists, was named in the Team of the Year, and won the first-ever edition of the Ligue 1 Best Dribbler trophy.
The versatile France u-21 international has operated on both flanks and centrally in 2024/25.
