Eddie Howe’s team now facing Leicester City next in the Premier League.

A massive week in general coming up for Newcastle United.

Here is the updated Premier League form table on Wednesday, which covers the past six matches for all teams:

The last six PL results for Newcastle United with very latest one listed first:

Brentford 4 Newcastle 2

Newcastle 3 Liverpool 3

Palace 1 Newcastle 1

Newcastle 0 West Ham 2

Forest 1 Newcastle 3

Newcastle 1 Arsenal 0

As you can see, Newcastle United now in ninth place in this newly updated Premier League form table.

NUFC with eight points from two wins, two draws and two defeats, with ten goals scored and eleven conceded.

As for Saturday’s opponents, these are West Ham’s last six PL matches, the very most recent listed first:

Leicester 2 Brighton 2

Leicester 3 West Ham 1

Brentford 4 Leicester 1

Leicester 1 Chelsea 2

Man U 3 Leicester 0

Ipswich 1 Leicester 1

So Leicester eighteenth in the Premier League form table with five points from one win, two draws and three defeats, scoring eight and conceding thirteen. The Foxes only having no-hopers Southampton and… Man City below them.

I think fair to say that with the current mood and debate going on, in the media and amongst Newcastle United fans, I think fair to say that not many NUFC supporters would have guessed that NUFC would have the joint eighth best record in this recent Premier League form table.

This Premier League form table shows just how inconsistent pretty much all PL teams have been recently.

No team has won more than four of their last six PL matches.

Whilst only three have won more than half (three) of their last half dozen PL games.

This is how the full Premier League table currently now looks on Wednesday 11 December 2024:

The Premier League form table very much reflects the full current PL table, with the exception of Liverpool. They are the only ones to have won more than nine matches so far, whilst only the scousers and three other have won more than half their PL games so far.

At this same stage (15 rounds of PL matches) last season, seven Premier League teams had won more than half (8+) of their first fifteen PL games, including Newcastle United. Eddie Howe’s side recovering after a tough opening quartet of matches where they had lost three of them and won one, to then in their next ten matches win seven, draw two and lose only one. Before in the fifteenth that 3-0 loss at Everton and Nick Pope the injury that was the straw to break the black and white Camel’s back. That defeat at Goodison kicking off a run of six defeats in seven PL matches.

These next three Premier League matches (Leicester, Ipswich and Villa) are all lower in this Premier League form table than Newcastle United.

Indeed, purely in terms of results, when you factor in the Chelsea Cup match that immediately preceded this latest run of six NUFC Premier League matches. Three wins against Chelsea, Arsenal and away at Forest, plus draws at home to Liverpool and away at Palace, doesn’t suggest the level of drama/crisis some Newcastle United fans are wanting to feel.

Analysing simply the performances, I am guessing most of us would see it as four really good level performances against Chelsea, Arsenal, Forest and Liverpool, which if they had been carried across all of the last seven games, would surely have seen a better points return in the trio of sub-par displays against West Ham, Palace and Brentford.

Will Eddie Howe now be able to find the key to more consistent (positive!) results and performances, with matches coming up that could prove crucial to the direction this Newcastle United season will take?
