Dani Carvajal’s injury earlier this month leaves Real Madrid in a tricky situation ahead of a crucial part of the season.

Having suffered a gruesome injury to he knew, the Euro 2024 winner is set to face the rest of the season out and will require close to a year for a complete recovery.

Lucas Vazquez is thus expected to step in as a more than able backup and will take over duties after the international break. However, the club are also concurrently monitoring the market as it is high time a long-term replacement is signed.

Liverpool’s Trent Alexander-Arnold has emerged as Real Madrid’s top target on that front, but Los Blancos have already identified a backup name if the Anfield star cannot arrive – Tottenham Hotspur’s Pedro Porro.

Porro talks Real Madrid links

Speaking to the media earlier this week, the Spanish right-back was quizzed on the rumours linking him with Santiago Bernabeu to which he replied,

“Of course I’m proud with these links, it means I’m doing things well,” the Tottenham star said, as quoted by Fabrizio Romano.

Porro, however, refused to comment further on his desire to join Real Madrid, emphasising focus on the job at hand.

“If that happens one day, it happens. Now I’m fully focused on my clubs, Tottenham,” he added

Real Madrid believe they can use Porro’s grassroots in Spain to lure him back to his home country next summer, for he still has his best years ahead of him at 25 years of age.

Spurs, however, would likely demand a very high transfer fee for his signing and his existing contract until 2028 leaves Real Madrid with no room to negotiate.

It thus remains to be seen if Los Blancos end up at Porro’s doorstep next summer for it all boils down to Alexander-Arnold’s situation at Liverpool. In any case, the player appreciating the club’s interest could be an early sign that he might be open to the move.
