Player of the Week

Just when you thought Erling Haaland had hit a slump, that he might actually be human, he roars back into form with a sensational performance against Wolves at the weekend.

The Norwegian striker became the 32nd player in Premier League history to score four goals in a single game, taking him to 25 for the season. Yes, two of them were penalties, but his final strike was a sublime finish, arguably his finest since joining Man City.

Goal of the Week

Haaland’s effort falls just ever so short when it comes to the best goal of the weekend. That honour belongs to Harvey Elliott, who capped off a superb performance against Spurs at Anfield with a wonder strike.

Several of his Liverpool teammates put their hands on their head in disbelief at what they had just seen, which says all you need to know about the quality of this goal.

An honourable mention for the first of Callum Hudson-Odoi’s two goals against Sheffield United on Saturday. The touch and finish from the Nottingham Forest winger was magnificent.

Pass of the Week

Haaland’s fourth and final goal would not have been possible without Phil Foden, who played a delicious crossfield ball to the striker with ease

Save of the Week

Aston Villa look like they are on their last legs, so much so they needed backup goalkeeper Robin Olsen to keep them in the game. They eventually succumbed to defeat against Brighton, but the Swede at least gave them a fighting chance with his numerous saves.

The best of the lot came on the stroke of halftime, when Pascal Gross found himself in acres of space in the middle of the box and destined to score. But Olsen adjusted his feet brilliantly to close the angle and make a big stop.

His performance deserved a clean sheet, but he was cruelly denied one when his penalty save in the second half was followed in by Joao Pedro for the winner.

Quote of the Week

We did not expect the Roy Keane and Erling Haaland rivalry to play out like this, but here we go.

After the Irishman compared the forward’s general play to that of a League Two player, Haaland stated: “I don’t really care about that man”. Fair enough, matter closed.

But Keane relit the flames with his reaction to Haaland’s anger at being subbed off against Wolves, calling the 23-year-old a “spoiled brat”.

The former Manchester United captain seems intent on having a dig at the Man City star.

Stat of the Week

Sheffield United clinched their place in the history books on Saturday when they conceded three goals to Nottingham Forest at home – putting them at 100 goal allowed for the season with two games to spare.

They are just the second team in Premier League history to concede a century after Swindon Town, but the Robins did so in a 42-game campaign back in 1993/94.

Indeed, the Blades are the first side to let in 100 goals in a 38-game English top-flight season since Leicester City in 1908/09 (102).

Howler of the Week

We are still scratching our heads at how Ryan Christie avoided a red card against Arsenal on Saturday. The Bournemouth midfielder raked the leg of Bukayo Saka with his studs in the first half, but escaped punishment from referee David Coote.

The Scottish international proceeded to make a host of naughty tackles throughout the game, yet only came away with one yellow card. Coote otherwise officiated the game well, but he effectively gave Christie permission to kick opposition players as he pleased.
