Looking at the Newcastle team v West Ham.
Eddie Howe and his players are hoping to build on their last three matches, that cup win over Chelsea and then Premier League victories over Arsenal and Forest.
Finally the fine margins, finishing and luck, going in United’s favour.
The confidence and momentum from these three wins could prove a game-changer.
So what can we expect the Newcastle team v West Ham to be?
As a starting point, this was the Newcastle team v Nottingham Forest:
Pope, Livramento, Schar, Burn, Hall, Longstaff, Bruno, Willock, Gordon, Isak, Joelinton
Eddie Howe gave an injury and availability update on Friday morning.
The Head Coach making clear that Krafth, Lascelles and Botman will not be available for this West Ham match.
However, Eddie Howe did say that both Wilson and Trippier had a chance of making Monday night’s matchday squad.
Eddie Howe on Callum Wilson:
“He’s doing well.
“We anticipate he’s going to train with the group today.
“Whether he’s quite there for West Ham, let’s see.
“But he has to get through the next few days in training first.
“We need to learn from previous issues we had and try and keep him on the pitch.”
Eddie Howe on Kieran Trippier:
“He’s slightly closer than Callum [Wilson].
“He trained well yesterday [Thursday] and felt good.
“No ill effects, looked sharp.
“That was his first day of training so again, we’re in a similar position in that right at the end of the rehab you’ve got to navigate the last few days well.”
Eddie Howe on Emil Krafth:
“Emil has had an operation.
“We anticipate he’s going to be out for six to eight weeks.
“It’s a big blow to us to lose Emil who has been such a consistent performer.”
Dan Burn misses this West Ham match due to picking up a one match ban, after a fifth PL booking of the season at Forest.
Anyway, my take on all of this, my best guesstimate of the Newcastle team v West Ham is:
Pope, Livramento, Schar, Kelly, Hall, Longstaff, Bruno, Willock, Gordon, Isak, Joelinton
As you can see, my take on it is, that it’s very difficult to see Eddie Howe making any changes at all for this West Ham match, apart from the enforced one for Dan Burn. Which will surely see Lloyd Kelly come in for the big lad from Blyth.
This team played so well against Arsenal and Forest, I really can’t see the Head Coach replacing anybody else, not this time anyway.
With the luxury as well of fifteen days between matches, unless there are any injury/fitness issues we don’t know about, very difficult to see Eddie Howe making other changes.
The match moved to Monday means that both Bruno Guimaraes and Miguel Almiron in particular, will benefit from an extra couple of days recovery and preparation after international duty.
As you can see from the schedule below, we now have a busy time ahead, so we can expect to see for sure, Eddie Howe rotating his squad on a regular basis, plenty of matches to go around for his not massive squad.
Which obviously is why Eddie Howe wants to try and make sure both Callum Wilson and Kieran Trippier are fully ready, before playing them again, to hopefully ensure they are available in this very busy upcoming period.
