📈 Power Rankings: Aston Villa return, Liverpool tumble

10. Aston Villa (🆕)

Aston Villa’s hopes of Champions League qualification are out of their hands, but Unai Emery’s side could hardly have done more to get themselves back into the race.

Villa have won eight of their last nine games in the Premier League, heading into a final-day clash at Manchester United. A return to Europe’s elite remains possible after steaming down the final straight.

9. Liverpool (👎 Last week: 4)

This week’s big fallers.

They’re on the beach to be honest, aren’t they?

Having wrapped up the Premier League title with games to spare, Liverpool have certainly taken their foot off the gas. It’s three without a win for Arne Slot’s side after defeat at Brighton, not that it really matters.

8. Galatasaray (👍 Last week: 10)

Galatasaray are champions of Turkey again after sealing a third consecutive Süper Lig success at the weekend.

Okan Buruk’s side eased past Kayserispor to seal the title, even allowing veteran goalkeeper Fernando Muslera to take – and score – a penalty for the third goal.

Cheeky.

7. Manchester City (No change)

Manchester City’s hopes of silverware were dashed at the weekend after losing to Crystal Palace in the FA Cup final. It’s the first trophyless season for the Citizens since 2016/17, a campaign that was Pep Guardiola’s first at the helm.

Fortunately, their Premier League form has been good and a 3-1 win over Bournemouth was the perfect response. A win at Fulham this weekend will seal Champions League qualification.

6. Sporting Lisbon (👍 Last week: 9)

Sporting Lisbon held their nerve in the Primeira Liga title race to claim the crown on the final weekend.

An epic title race saw Sporting and Benfica head into the last game level on points, with Sporting beating Vitoria SC 2-0 to defend their crown. It’s a fine achievement for Sporting, who have dealt with the unrest of three different head coaches this season.

5. Napoli (👍 Last week: 8)

Napoli climb despite a fortuitous weekend in their Scudetto chase. Antonio Conte’s side dropped points for the second straight game against Parma, but Inter’s own slip means the title race is still in their hands.

A win this weekend will seal the title, with Conte having taken last season’s 10th-placed team to the cusp of the championship.

4. Inter Milan (👎 Last week: 3)

Inter Milan are kicking themselves after blowing the chance to overhaul Napoli in the title race.

The defending champions were twice pegged back by Lazio in a 2-2 draw before Marko Arnautovic missed a glorious chance to win it late on. That might just be the end of their Scudetto dream.

3. Bayern Munich (👍 Last week: 5)

Bayern Munich signed off their title-winning season in style with a 4-0 win at Hoffenheim.

It was a party mood for the newly-crowned champions, who waltzed to a win with Michael Olise, Joshua Kimmich, Serge Gnabry and Harry Kane all on target. Unarguably Germany’s best this season.

2. Barcelona (No change)

Barcelona are another title winner to have eased up, slipping to a 3-2 defeat to Villarreal in their first fixture since winning La Liga. The Catalans led at half-time but collapsed after the break as the Yellow Submarine sunk the champions.

1. Paris Saint-Germain (No change)

It was celebration time in Paris as Luis Enrique’s side concluded their title-winning season.

Khvicha Kvaratskhelia was on target twice in the 3-1 win over Auxerre, that preceded the trophy presentation at the Parc des Princes. Now, it’s full focus on quadruple success with the French Cup and Champions League finals to come.
