Ange Postecoglou could travel to Bilbao for the Europa League final without one of his most trusted lieutenants.
Tottenham Hotspur will lock horns with Manchester United in an all-English UEL tie on May 21, with both sides desperate to gloss over their disastrous domestic campaigns by basking in European glory.
Barring Sunday’s defeat to West Ham United, in which Ruben Amorim played as strong a starting XI as he could field – with the exception of second-choice Altay Bayindir stepping in for Andre Onana – it’s been evident in recemt weeks that the Portuguese coach has set his full sights on reigning successful in the competition.
Amorim has been resting some of his most reliable performers whilst calling upon youth prospects to showcase their abilities. It has, however, resulted in the 20-time champions dropping down to 16th place.
Spurs have endured a marginally worse campaign, given they sit 17th and are just a point behind United. They have, however, beaten the Red Devils on three separate occasions this season, completing a league double as well as a Carabao Cup quarter-final win back in December.
When falling to a 2-0 home defeat at the hands of Crystal Palace on Sunday afternoon, Ange Postecoglou could only watch on from the dugout as integral starter Dejan Kulusevski was forced off with an injury in the 19th minute before he headed straight down the tunnel for treatment.

James Maddison and Lucas Bergvall are already confirmed to have played their final games of 2024/2025, so the prospect of losing the dynamic midfielder will be unthinkable for Postecoglou.
The Athletic’s Jay Harris echoed the sentiment during the match, too, claiming it would be a ‘disaster’ if the Spurs boss had to take to Spain with all three players ruled out of the final.
