Ange Postecoglou has said he is hopeful he will still be in charge at Tottenham Hotspur next season.
Spurs have endured a campaign of mixed fortunes, with a record-low Premier League finish contrasted by drought-breaking trophy success. The North Londoners beat Manchester United to win the Europa League in midweek, ending a 17-year trophy drought and securing Champions League qualification.
However, their league form has been torrid and defeat to Brighton on the final weekend was their 22nd of the Premier League season. Spurs end the campaign 17th, just one place above the relegation places.
Despite that, Postecoglou believes the Spurs supporters would have taken the overall outcome at the start of the season.
“How do I assess our season? Outstanding! Won a trophy which we haven’t for 17 years and we’re in the Champions League,” Postecoglou said at full-time.
“Ask anyone supporter at start of the season if they’d take that and there wouldn’t be a person in the house that wouldn’t.”
It has been speculated that Postecoglou’s position could be under threat despite the club’s European success. The Australian admitted he is relaxed about his situation and is hopeful of returning for pre-season.
“It doesn’t bother me asking me about my future. I can’t answer. i’m pretty relaxed about it. it’s been an unbelievable season. I couldn’t be any prouder.
“You’re asking the wrong person. Everyone in the media is intelligent enough to know I’m not the person to know to ask those questions. I’ll have a break and then hopefully we’ll be back first day next season to start things.”
