A scintillating performance allowed Thiago Motta’s Juventus to beat Como 3-0 at the Allianz Stadium, seeing Kenan Yildiz, and the debutant Samuel Mbangula take centre stage.

Juve’s pre-season may not have been so enjoyable, but the Bianconeri’s Serie A debut under Thiago Motta was an absolute pleasure to watch even if Cesc Fabregas’ Como didn’t show much of their quality and their strikers – Patrick Cutrone and Andrea Belotti – struggled to find a way between centre-backs Federico Gatti and Gleison Bremer.

Motta surprisingly started Samuel Mbangula (8) as a left winger and the U21 Belgium international wasted no time, scoring his first senior goal after barely 20 minutes.

Who is Samuel Mbangula: the Juventus winger making his senior debut vs. Como

Como melted after Juve’s opener and the Bianconeri added a second one seconds before the half-time break with the other winger, Timothy Weah (7).

Dusan Vlahovic (6.5) was pretty unlucky as he had a goal disallowed at the beginning of the second half and hit the woodwork twice.

Andrea Cambiaso (7.5) killed off the game in the dying minutes with a stunning curler from the edge of the box.

Juventus vs Como player ratings

Juventus (4-2-3-1): Di Gregorio 6; Cambiaso 7.5, Gatti 6, Bremer 6, Cabal 6.5; Locatelli 6.5 (78′ Douglas Luiz 6), Thuram 7 (67′ Fagioli 6); Weah 7.5 (46′ N. Savona 6.5), Yildiz 8, Mbangula 8; Vlahovic 6.5.

Best Juventus Player: Yildiz 8 – Same rating as Mbangula. Yildiz didn’t score but provided the assist for Weah’s goal and was pure class. A natural attacking playmaker, he inspired the best attacking moves playing as a Trequartista. The No. 10 suits him well, given what he does on the pitch.

Coach: Thiago Motta 7.5 – He was brave enough to bench the most expensive summer signing to start an almost unknown 20-year-old winger who proved him right. Convincing Juventus performance after a pre-season with many highs and lows.

Como (4-4-2): Reina 6; Goldaniga 4.5, Sala 4.5, Barba 5, Moreno 5; Strefezza 5, Baselli 5.5 (22′ Engelhardt 5), Braunoder 5.5, Da Cunha 5 (56’Abildgaard (63′ Verdi 5.5)); Belotti 4.5 (56′ Gabrielloni 5), Cutrone 4.5 (63′ Cerri 5).

Best Como Player: Reina 6 – Nothing he could do to avoid Juventus’ goals. His leadership skills will help Como this season. That’s also why he started over Audero.

Lowest Como Rating: Goldaniga 4.5Many players share the same rating, but Goldaniga’s night was particularly troubled against Mbangula and featured many misplaced passes.

Coach: Fabregas 5 – Como switched off and lost confidence after the opener. They have quality players and not all teams fighting for survival will have the same attitude as Juve. How many goals Belotti and Cutrone can combine this season remains to be seen.
