Milan secured a 2-1 win over city rivals Inter on Sunday. Football Italia was among the accredited media at the Stadio Meazza. Here are the player ratings.
Sommer 7 – Nothing he could do to avoid Milan’s goals. Actually, he made a few key saves too, especially in the second half.
Pavard 5.5 – His heatmap is crazy and seems to show a midfielder’s performance, not a defender’s. The Frenchman won many duels but lost possession more than he usually does.
Acerbi 5 – In no man’s land when Pulisic won the ball in midfield and scored an early opener.
Bastoni 5.5 – Not entirely convincing as well. He lost possession nine times. (82′ Carlos Augusto N/A)
Dumfries 5.5 – An average performance down the right flank (63′ Darmian 5.5)
Mkhitaryan 5 – Lost the duel against Pulisic, seeing the American star open the account early in the first half. Seems a bit tired already. (63′ Frattesi 5)
Calhanoglu 6 – Should have fouled Pulisic before his goal. But, hey, 97% accurate passes. Crazy. (63′ Asllani 5.5)
Barella 6 – Tried to find space down the right flank rather than in the middle. Some quality moves, but only one ground duel won and 89% passing accuracy. He had been more efficient in Manchester (74′ Zielinski 6)
Dimarco 7 – Inter‘s best outfield player. Besides the goal, the Nerazzurri’s most dangerous attacks started on the left.
Lautaro Martinez 6.5 – A fine assist for Dimarco. Still goalless this season, but his shape is clearly improving.
Thuram 5.5 – Fought hard but didn’t always make the right decisions.
Coach: Inzaghi 5.5 – Missed the chance to win the derby for the seventh consecutive time. A few players are still not in their best shape, and perhaps it’s time to question Mkhitaryan’s starting status.
Maignan 7 – Superb save in the second half to deny Lautaro. More confident on set pieces.
Emerson Royal 6 – Not the best performance defensively, but he tried to contribute in the final third.
Gabbia 7.5 – A convincing display from the product of Milan Academy. Strong and brave tackles in defence. The late winner was the icing on the cake.
Tomori 6.5 – Frustrated Thuram.
Theo Hernandez 6 – Forget his forward runs. This time around, the Frenchman was much more thoughtful and didn’t even fight with Dumfries.
Pulisic 7 – Opened the account with a superb solo goal. By far Milan’s best player so far this season. (78′ Okafor 6)
Fofana 6.5 – Classic holding midfielder. Won five duels from six.
Reijnders 7 – Controlled the tempo and created a few good chances for Milan. The Dutchman is equally efficient as a regista and as an attacking midfielder.
Leao 6 – The Portuguese missed one big chance in the second half, but at least he showed a positive attitude. (87′ Chukwueze N/A)
Morata 6 – Often dropped down to create space for his teammates. Selfless performance. (78′ Loftus-Cheek 6)
Abraham 6 – Some good movements. He also missed a huge chance in the second half, but luckily for Milan, Gabbia made up for it. (90′ Pavlovic N/A)
Coach: Fonseca 7—This is the game of redemption. Milan didn’t dominate proceedings but put in a smart performance. They didn’t press high but waited for their opponents instead. Unexpected win, but this is what the derby is about.
