Fears over the fitness of Manchester United captain Bruno Fernandes have been exacerbated after he was spotted with his wrist in a protective cast ahead of the club’s Premier League clash against Crystal Palace.

United are set to make their way to the capital on Monday to take on Oliver Glasner’s men at Selhurst Park.

Despite being boosted by the returns of players like Anthony Martial and Jonny Evans who took part in a first-team training session at Carrington on Thursday, there are multiple other stars facing a race against time to be available for the clash.

Speaking during his presser, Erik ten Hag revealed that a late decision will be made on the participation of Scott McTominay, who picked up an issue during the 1-1 draw against Burnley.

The United boss also revealed that Fernandes is a doubt for the game although considering the Portuguese midfielder has yet to miss a game for the club due to injury since he joined, he can’t be ruled out entirely.

Fernandes sustained the physical setback during the dramatic FA Cup semi-final win vs. Coventry City at Wembley.

In subsequent matches against Sheffield United and Burnley, the United skipper played through the pain barrier. However, if Ten Hag’s comments are anything to go by, it seems the issue is still massively disturbing the playmaker.

These concerns were heightened further after a picture (published by The Manchester Evening News) showed Fernandes’ right wrist enclosed within a protective medical cast – almost two weeks after he was injured.

The 29-year-old was pictured leaving a coffee shop in Wilmslow on Friday morning.

As stated by MEN, “It is unclear whether the issue with Fernandes is the hand injury, but having worn a bandage for the Old Trafford fixtures with Sheffield United and Burnley, it is now more heavily strapped.”

Should the in-form Fernandes miss the game, he would undoubtedly be a huge miss for United.

He scored seven goals and registered two assists last month for the 20-time English champions across all competitions. His exploits earned him the club’s April Player of the Month prize.
