Peterborough United are in advanced talks to sign Braintree forward Kyrell Lisbie, son of former Charlton striker Kevin Lisbie.

League One side Peterborough United appear to be in pole position to secure the signing of Braintree Town forward Kyrell Lisbie, with reports suggesting that they are advancing in negotiations for the youngster.

The promising 21-year-old attacker has enjoyed an impressive campaign in the National League, finding the back of the net 11 times over the course of the 2024/25 season.

Lisbie is no stranger to the footballing world. He is the son of former Charlton Athletic and Ipswich Town striker Kevin Lisbie, who amassed 112 goals across his professional career.

Football talent clearly runs in the family, and Kyrell looks set to follow in his father's footsteps with a potential move up the English football pyramid.

Peterborough enter Kyrell Lisbie talks as Kwame Poku exit links accelerate

According to journalist Pete O'Rourke, Posh are in "advanced talks" to land the signature of Lisbie, who has impressed in the National League this season for a Braintree side that are set for another season in the fifth tier.

Taking in the academies of Watford and West Ham earlier in his career, Lisbie joined Braintree last summer from Cray Valley PM, where he gained headlines for showings and a goal against Charlton Athletic in the first round of the FA Cup, and now finds himself subject to a potential League One move.

Lisbie has featured primarily on the wing for Braintree this season, although he can also play up-front, and he could potentially figure as a replacement for Kwame Poku, who is set to exit London Road this summer.

Football League World exclusively revealed last month that League One champions Birmingham City are prepared to offer a mammoth £30,000 a week contract to the Ghanaian winger, who scored 12 times and notched a further eight assists in just 27 third tier outings this season.

Posh will land compensation for the 23-year-old due to his age, but Poku will be a hard man to replace - could Lisbie be that player?

As a club, Peterborough have been known for showcasing and platforming fantastic talents who have gone on to have fantastic careers across the EFL.

Poku was one that arrived from Colchester United as an unpolished gem, and further back the likes of Ivan Toney and JDwight Gayle have been success stories too - the opportunity of performing at Peterborough, despite their poor league campaign in 2024-25, can often be an enticing factor for players who make the decision to work under Darren Ferguson at the club.

With a season of National League football under his belt, Lisbie will feel as though he can make his mark in the EFL, and being the son of veteran striker Kevin, he certainly has the right kind of pedigree.
