Jadon Sancho is still walking a tightrope at Chelsea, but his recent displays have shown that the rope has not yet snapped.

His loan move from Manchester United was always going to be scrutinised. A player once valued at over £70 million is now in the shop window – his future tethered to performance and potential.

The terms of his deal offer Chelsea a choice. They can buy him permanently for £25 million or pay a smaller sum to send him back. That speaks volumes about how far his stock has fallen.

However, reputations in football can be repaired almost overnight. Two assists in the Europa League, and a sublime equaliser against Ipswich Town have reminded people what Sancho is capable of.

He cut inside with confidence, whipped the ball past Alex Palmer, and celebrated a goal that had flair and importance. It was the kind of moment Chelsea have lacked from their flanks this season.

Sancho admitted the point was not enough. “I would have preferred the three points even if that meant I didn’t score,” he said.

It is the right mindset – an acknowledgement that personal success only matters if it contributes to the team.

With Cole Palmer struggling for goals and Pedro Neto still finding his feet, Sancho suddenly has a path to relevance at Stamford Bridge.

Noni Madueke has been the standout wide option of late, but Sancho’s resurgence could change that equation.

Consistency remains the keyword. His three goals this season have come against Southampton, Tottenham Hotspur and Ipswich – not the toughest opponents.

For a player hoping to make a case for a permanent deal, the bar must be higher.

The stakes are clear. Chelsea are in a tense battle for Champions League qualification. They cannot afford passengers.

If Sancho can sustain his recent form and help secure a top-five finish, his price tag will start to look like a bargain. If not, Chelsea may choose the exit clause and cut their losses.

Enzo Maresca’s side needs game-changers. If Sancho can be one between now and May, he may not only salvage his career but also earn a long-term future in blue.
