Third win of Youth League season claimed

A dominant performance for long periods saw our Young Bulls see off GNK Dinamo Zagreb. Daniel Beichler's boys upped the pace in the second half and the visitors could not live with us as a Phillip Verhounig brace and Zeteny Jano strike sealed a 3-2 win.

Match summary

The rainy autumn weather wasn't too inviting – although a crowd of 425 still made it to the Red Bull Football Academy.  It also wasn't too inviting an encounter for the visitors from Zagreb as they had to cope with our Young Bulls' fluent attacking play. Edmund Baidoo launched an attack that led to a one-two between Zeteny Jano and Phillip Verhounig splitting the away defence, leading to the latter breaking free on goal. The young Austrian wasted no time before slotting into the corner of the net (4').

Our charges continued to set the tone. Tim Trummer responded to Dinamo threatening from distance via Bakovic, with Mikic having to dive in to stop the winger's strike going over the line for 2-0.  Jano then went close twice - firstly after a blistering Baidoo run and then on his own solo burst. Our lack of a clinical touch came back to bite as Sunta took a free-kick from just under 20 metres out and sank it right into the top corner (39') – to level at the break.

Beichler's boys bustled with purpose once more in the second half. Marc Striednig had a go with a fierce effort from distance (52'), before a Jano shot after a neat little move went out. Verhounig was able to net a minute later as Dinamo gave the ball away in their build-up, Kristjan Bendra took hold of it and teed up the striker, who celebrated his fourth goal in the current UEFA Youth League campaign (53').

Joane Gadou could have sealed it around the hour mark – with the dominant defender going close from a promising position - only for Jano to fire the third. Jakirovic brought substitute Kenneth Tejiri down in the area and Rajic was sent the wrong way from the spot (87').

The visitors had the final say despite the three points staying in Salzburg as Jano was shown his second yellow card (88') and received his marching orders before Sepic pulled a goal back from long-range (90+2'). Our boys took the lead over the line regardless to take their third win in three matches!
